Acts 19:1And it came to pass, in Apollos` being in Corinth, Paul having gone through the upper parts, came to Ephesus, and having found certain disciples,It happened that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples.And it came to pass, while Apollo was at Corinth, that Paul having passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples.
Acts 19:2he said unto them, `The Holy Spirit did ye receive having believed?` and they said unto him, `But we did not even hear whether there is any Holy Spirit;`He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They said to him, "No, we did not so much as hear whether there is a Holy Spirit."And he said to them: Have you received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? But they said to him: We have not so much as heard whether there be a Holy Ghost.
Acts 19:3and he said unto them, `To what, then, were ye baptized?` and they said, `To John`s baptism.`He said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John's baptism."And he said: In what then were you baptized? Who said: In John's baptism.
Acts 19:4And Paul said, `John, indeed, did baptize with a baptism of reformation, saying to the people that in him who is coming after him they should believe that is, in the Christ Jesus;`Paul said, "John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, on Jesus."Then Paul said: John baptized the people with the baptism of penance, saying: That they should believe in him who was to come after him, that is to say, in Jesus.
Acts 19:5and they, having heard, were baptized to the name of the Lord Jesus,When they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.Having heard these things, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Acts 19:6and Paul having laid on them [his] hands, the Holy Spirit came upon them, they were speaking also with tongues, and prophesying,When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other languages, and prophesied.And when Paul had imposed his hands on them, the Holy Ghost came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
Acts 19:7and all the men were, as it were, twelve.They were about twelve men in all.And all the men were about twelve.
Acts 19:8And having gone into the synagogue, he was speaking boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading the things concerning the reign of God,He entered into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for a period of three months, reasoning and persuading about the things concerning the kingdom of God.And entering into the synagogue, he spoke boldly for the space of three months, disputing and exhorting concerning the kingdom of God.
Acts 19:9and when certain were hardened and were disbelieving, speaking evil of the way before the multitude, having departed from them, he did separate the disciples, every day reasoning in the school of a certain Tyrannus.But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.But when some were hardened, and believed not, speaking evil of the way of the Lord, before the multitude, departing from them, he separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
Acts 19:10And this happened for two years so that all those dwelling in Asia did hear the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks,This continued for the space of two years, so that all those who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.And this continued for the space of two years, so that all they who dwelt in Asia, heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Gentiles.
Acts 19:11mighty works also not common was God working through the hands of Paul,God worked special miracles by the hands of Paul,And God wrought by the hand of Paul more than common miracles.
Acts 19:12so that even unto the ailing were brought from his body handkerchiefs or aprons, and the sicknesses departed from them; the evil spirits also went forth from them.insomuch that handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and the evil spirits went out.So that even there were brought from his body to the sick, handkerchiefs and aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the wicked spirits went out of them.
Acts 19:13And certain of the wandering exorcist Jews, took upon [them] to name over those having the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, `We adjure you by Jesus, whom Paul doth preach;`But some of the itinerant Jews, exorcists, took on themselves to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, "We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches."Now some also of the Jewish exorcists who went about, attempted to invoke over them that had evil spirits, the name of the Lord Jesus, saying: I conjure you by Jesus, whom Paul preacheth.
Acts 19:14and there were certain seven sons of Sceva, a Jew, a chief priest who are doing this thing;There were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did this.And there were certain men, seven sons of Sceva, a Jew, a chief priest, that did this.
Acts 19:15and the evil spirit, answering, said, `Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with; and ye who are ye?`The evil spirit answered, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?"But the wicked spirit, answering, said to them: Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?
Acts 19:16And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaping upon them, and having overcome them, prevailed against them, so that naked and wounded they did flee out of that house,The man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.And the man in whom the wicked spirit was, leaping upon them, and mastering them both, prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Acts 19:17and this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who are dwelling at Ephesus, and fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was being magnified,This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived at Ephesus. Fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.And this became known to all the Jews and the Gentiles that dwelt at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
Acts 19:18many also of those who did believe were coming, confessing and declaring their acts,Many also of those who had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds.And many of them that believed, came confessing and declaring their deeds.
Acts 19:19and many of those who had practised the curious arts, having brought the books together, were burning [them] before all; and they reckoned together the prices of them, and found [it] five myriads of silverlings;Not a few of those who practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. They counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.And many of them who had followed curious arts, brought together their books, and burnt them before all; and counting the price of them, they found the money to be fifty thousand pieces of silver.
Acts 19:20so powerfully was the word of God increasing and prevailing.So the word of the Lord was growing and becoming mighty.So mightily grew the word of God, and was confirmed.
Acts 19:21And when these things were fulfilled, Paul purposed in the Spirit, having gone through Macedonia and Achaia, to go on to Jerusalem, saying `After my being there, it behoveth me also to see Rome;`Now after these things had ended, Paul determined in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome."And when these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying: After I have been there, I must see Rome also.
Acts 19:22and having sent to Macedonia two of those ministering to him Timotheus and Erastus he himself stayed a time in Asia.Having sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.And sending into Macedonia two of them that ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself remained for a time in Asia.
Acts 19:23And there came, at that time, not a little stir about the way,About that time there arose no small stir concerning the Way.Now at that time there arose no small disturbance about the way of the Lord.
Acts 19:24for a certain one, Demetrius by name, a worker in silver, making silver sanctuaries of Artemis, was bringing to the artificers gain not a little,For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen,For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver temples for Diana, brought no small gain to the craftsmen;
Acts 19:25whom, having brought in a crowd together, and those who did work about such things, he said, `Men, ye know that by this work we have our wealth;whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said, "Sirs, you know that by this business we have our wealth.Whom he calling together, with the workmen of like occupation, said: Sirs, you know that our gain is by this trade;
Acts 19:26and ye see and hear, that not only at Ephesus, but almost in all Asia, this Paul, having persuaded, did turn away a great multitude, saying, that they are not gods who are made by hands;You see and hear, that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands.And you see and hear, that this Paul by persuasion hath drawn away a great multitude, not only of Ephesus, but almost of all Asia, saying: They are not gods which are made by hands.
Acts 19:27and not only is this department in danger for us of coming into disregard, but also, that of the great goddess Artemis the temple is to be reckoned for nothing, and also her greatness is about to be brought down, whom all Asia and the world doth worship.`Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing, and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships."So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought, but also the temple of great Diana shall be reputed for nothing; yea, and her majesty shall begin to be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.
Acts 19:28And they having heard, and having become full of wrath, were crying out, saying, `Great [is] the Artemis of the Ephesians!`When they heard this they were filled with wrath, and cried out, saying, "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!"Having heard these things, they were full of anger, and cried out, saying: Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
Acts 19:29and the whole city was filled with confusion, they rushed also with one accord into the theatre, having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul`s fellow-travellers.The whole city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord into the theater, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel.And the whole city was filled with confusion; and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.
Acts 19:30And on Paul`s purposing to enter in unto the populace, the disciples were not suffering him,When Paul wanted to enter in to the people, the disciples didn't allow him.And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.
Acts 19:31and certain also of the chief men of Asia, being his friends, having sent unto him, were entreating him not to venture himself into the theatre.Certain also of the Asiarchs, being his friends, sent to him and begged him not to venture into the theater.And some also of the rulers of Asia, who were his friends, sent unto him, desiring that he would not venture himself into the theatre.
Acts 19:32Some indeed, therefore, were calling out one thing, and some another, for the assembly was confused, and the greater part did not know for what they were come together;Some therefore cried one thing, and some another, for the assembly was in confusion. Most of them didn't know why they had come together.Now some cried one thing, some another. For the assembly was confused, and the greater part knew not for what cause they were come together.
Acts 19:33and out of the multitude they put forward Alexander the Jews thrusting him forward and Alexander having beckoned with the hand, wished to make defence to the populace,They brought Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. Alexander beckoned with his hand, and would have made a defense to the people.And they drew forth Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews thrusting him forward. And Alexander beckoning with his hand for silence, would have given the people satisfaction.
Acts 19:34and having known that he is a Jew, one voice came out of all, for about two hours, crying, `Great [is] the Artemis of the Ephesians!`But when they perceived that he was a Jew, all with one voice for a time of about two hours cried out, "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!"But as soon as they perceived him to be a Jew, all with one voice, for the space of about two hours, cried out: Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
Acts 19:35And the public clerk having quieted the multitude, saith, `Men, Ephesians, why, who is the man that doth not know that the city of the Ephesians is a devotee of the great goddess Artemis, and of that which fell down from Zeus?When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, "You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn't know that the city of the Ephesians is temple-keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?And when the town clerk had appeased the multitudes, he said: Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great Diana, and of Jupiter's offspring.
Acts 19:36these things, then, not being to be gainsaid, it is necessary for you to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.Seeing then that these things can't be denied, you ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rash.For as much therefore as these things cannot be contradicted, you ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.
Acts 19:37`For ye brought these men, who are neither temple-robbers nor speaking evil of your goddess;For you have brought these men here, who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of your goddess.For you have brought hither these men, who are neither guilty of sacrilege, nor of blasphemy against your goddess.
Acts 19:38if indeed, therefore, Demetrius and the artificers with him with any one have a matter, court [days] are held, and there are proconsuls; let them accuse one another.If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him, have a matter against anyone, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.But if Demetrius and the craftsmen that are with him, have a matter against any man, the courts of justice are open, and there are proconsuls: let them accuse one another.
Acts 19:39`And if ye seek after anything concerning other matters, in the legal assembly it shall be determined;But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.And if you inquire after any other matter, it may be decided in a lawful assembly.
Acts 19:40for we are also in peril of being accused of insurrection in regard to this day, there being no occasion by which we shall be able to give an account of this concourse;`For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning this day's riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn't be able to give an account of this commotion."For we are even in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there being no man guilty (of whom we may give account) of this concourse. And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly.
Acts 19:41and these things having said, he dismissed the assembly.When he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
