Matthew 9:1 | And having gone to the boat, he passed over, and came to his own city, | He entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city. | Accordingly He went on board, and crossing over came to His own town. |
Matthew 9:2 | and lo, they were bringing to him a paralytic, laid upon a couch, and Jesus having seen their faith, said to the paralytic, `Be of good courage, child, thy sins have been forgiven thee.` | Behold, they brought to him a man who was paralyzed, lying on a bed. Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, cheer up! Your sins are forgiven you." | Here they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned." |
Matthew 9:3 | And lo, certain of the scribes said within themselves, `This one doth speak evil.` | Behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man blasphemes." | "Such language is impious," said some of the Scribes among themselves. |
Matthew 9:4 | And Jesus, having known their thoughts, said, `Why think ye evil in your hearts? | Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts? | Knowing their thoughts Jesus said, "Why are you cherishing evil thoughts in your hearts? |
Matthew 9:5 | for which is easier? to say, The sins have been forgiven to thee; or to say, Rise, and walk? | For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven;' or to say, 'Get up, and walk?' | Why, which is easier? to say, `Your sins are pardoned,' or to say `Rise up and walk'? |
Matthew 9:6 | `But, that ye may know that the Son of Man hath power upon the earth to forgive sins (then saith he to the paralytic) having risen, take up thy couch, and go to thy house.` | But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins..." (then he said to the paralytic), "Get up, and take up your mat, and go up to your house." | But, to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to pardon sins" He then says to the paralytic, "Rise, and take up your bed and go home." |
Matthew 9:7 | And he, having risen, went to his house, | He arose and departed to his house. | And he got up, and went off home. |
Matthew 9:8 | and the multitudes having seen, wondered, and glorified God, who did give such power to men. | But when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such authority to men. | And the crowds were awe-struck when they saw it, and ascribed the glory to God who had entrusted such power to a man. |
Matthew 9:9 | And Jesus passing by thence, saw a man sitting at the tax-office, named Matthew, and saith to him, `Be following me,` and he, having risen, did follow him. | As Jesus passed by from there, he saw a man called Matthew, sitting at the tax collection office. He said to him, "Follow me." He got up and followed him. | Passing on thence Jesus saw a man called Matthew sitting at the Toll Office, and said to him, "Follow me." And he arose, and followed Him. |
Matthew 9:10 | And it came to pass, he reclining (at meat) in the house, that lo, many tax-gatherers and sinners having come, were lying (at meat) with Jesus and his disciples, | It happened, as he sat at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. | And while He was reclining at table, a large number of tax-gathers and notorious sinners were of the party with Jesus and His disciples. |
Matthew 9:11 | and the Pharisees having seen, said to his disciples, `Wherefore with the tax-gatherers and sinners doth your teacher eat?` | When the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with the tax collectors and sinners?" | The Pharisees noticed this, and they inquired of His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with the tax-gatherers and notorious sinners?" |
Matthew 9:12 | And Jesus having heard, said to them, `They who are whole have no need of a physician, but they who are ill; | When Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do. | He heard the question and replied, "It is not men in good health who require a doctor, but the sick. |
Matthew 9:13 | but having gone, learn ye what is, Kindness I will, and not sacrifice, for I did not come to call righteous men, but sinners, to reformation.` | But you go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." | But go and learn what this means, `It is mercy that I desire, not sacrifice'; for I did not come to appeal to the righteous, but to sinners." |
Matthew 9:14 | Then come to him do the disciples of John, saying, `Wherefore do we and the Pharisees fast much, and thy disciples fast not?` | Then John's disciples came to him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don't fast?" | At that time John's disciples came and asked Jesus, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?" |
Matthew 9:15 | And Jesus said to them, `Can the sons of the bride-chamber mourn, so long as the bridegroom is with them? but days shall come when the bridegroom may be taken from them, and then they shall fast. | Jesus said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. | "Can the bridegroom's party mourn," He replied, "as long as the bridegroom is with them? But other days will come (when the Bridegroom has been taken from them) and then they will fast. |
Matthew 9:16 | `And no one doth put a patch of undressed cloth on an old garment, for its filling up doth take from the garment, and a worse rent is made. | No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made. | No one ever mends an old cloak with a patch of newly woven cloth. Otherwise, the patch put on would tear away some of the old, and a worse hole would be made. |
Matthew 9:17 | `Nor do they put new wine into old skins, and if not the skins burst, and the wine doth run out, and the skins are destroyed, but they put new wine into new skins, and both are preserved together.` | Neither do people put new wine into old wineskins, or else the skins would burst, and the wine be spilled, and the skins ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved." | Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins would split, the wine would escape, and the skins be destroyed. But they put new wine into fresh skins, and both are saved." |
Matthew 9:18 | While he is speaking these things to them, lo, a ruler having come, was bowing to him, saying that `My daughter just now died, but, having come, lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.` | While he told these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshipped him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live." | While He was thus speaking, a Ruler came up and profoundly bowing said, "My daughter is just dead; but come and put your hand upon her and she will return to life." |
Matthew 9:19 | And Jesus having risen, did follow him, also his disciples, | Jesus got up and followed him, as did his disciples. | And Jesus rose and followed him, as did also His disciples. |
Matthew 9:20 | and lo, a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, having come to him behind, did touch the fringe of his garments, | Behold, a woman, who had an issue of blood for twelve years, came behind him, and touched the tassels of his garment; | But a woman who for twelve years had been afflicted with haemorrhage came behind Him and touched the tassel of His cloak; |
Matthew 9:21 | for she said within herself, `If only I may touch his garment, I shall be saved.` | for she said within herself, "If I just touch his garment, I will be made well." | for she said to herself, "If I but touch His cloak, I shall be cured." |
Matthew 9:22 | And Jesus having turned about, and having seen her, said, `Be of good courage, daughter, thy faith hath saved thee,` and the woman was saved from that hour. | But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, "Daughter, cheer up! Your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour. | And Jesus turned and saw her, and said, "Take courage, daughter; your faith has cured you." And the woman was restored to health from that moment. |
Matthew 9:23 | And Jesus having come to the house of the ruler, and having seen the minstrels and the multitude making tumult, | When Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd in noisy disorder, | Entering the Ruler's house, Jesus saw the flute-players and the crowd loudly wailing, |
Matthew 9:24 | he saith to them, `Withdraw, for the damsel did not die, but doth sleep,` and they were deriding him; | he said to them, "Make room, because the young lady isn't dead, but sleeping." They laughed him to scorn. | and He said, "Go out of the room; the little girl is not dead, but asleep." And they laughed at Him. |
Matthew 9:25 | but, when the multitude was put forth, having gone in, he took hold of her hand, and the damsel arose, | But when the crowd was put out, he entered in, took her by the hand, and the young lady arose. | When however the place was cleared of the crowd, Jesus went in, and on His taking the little girl by the hand, she rose up. |
Matthew 9:26 | and the fame of this went forth to all the land. | The report of this went forth into all that land. | And the report of this spread throughout all that district. |
Matthew 9:27 | And Jesus passing on thence, two blind men followed him, calling and saying, `Deal kindly with us, Son of David.` | As Jesus passed by from there, two blind men followed him, calling out and saying, "Have mercy on us, son of David!" | As Jesus passed on, two blind men followed Him, shouting and saying, "Pity us, Son of David." |
Matthew 9:28 | And he having come to the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus saith to them, `Believe ye that I am able to do this?` They say to him, `Yes, sir.` | When he had come into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They told him, "Yes, Lord." | And when He had gone indoors, they came to Him. "Do you believe that I can do this?" He asked them. "Yes, Sir," they replied. |
Matthew 9:29 | Then touched he their eyes, saying, `According to your faith let it be to you,` | Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you." | So He touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith let it be to you." |
Matthew 9:30 | and their eyes were opened, and Jesus strictly charged them, saying, `See, let no one know;` | Their eyes were opened. Jesus strictly charged them, saying, "See that no one knows about this." | Then their eyes were opened. And assuming a stern tone Jesus said to them, "Be careful to let no one know." |
Matthew 9:31 | but they, having gone forth, did spread his fame in all that land. | But they went out and spread abroad his fame in all that land. | But they went out and published His fame in all that district. |
Matthew 9:32 | And as they are coming forth, lo, they brought to him a man dumb, a demoniac, | As they went forth, behold, there was brought to him a mute man who was demon possessed. | And as they were leaving His presence a dumb demoniac was brought to Him. |
Matthew 9:33 | and the demon having been cast out, the dumb spake, and the multitude did wonder, saying that `It was never so seen in Israel:` | When the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke. The multitudes marveled, saying, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!" | When the demon was expelled, the dumb man could speak. And the crowds exclaimed in astonishment, "Never was such a thing seen in Israel." |
Matthew 9:34 | but the Pharisees said, `By the ruler of the demons he doth cast out the demons.` | But the Pharisees said, "By the prince of the demons, he casts out demons." | But the Pharisees maintained, "It is by the power of the Prince of the demons that he drives out the demons." |
Matthew 9:35 | And Jesus was going up and down all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the reign, and healing every sickness and every malady among the people. | Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. | And Jesus continued His circuits through all the towns and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom, and curing every kind of disease and infirmity. |
Matthew 9:36 | And having seen the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, that they were faint and cast aside, as sheep not having a shepherd, | But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, as sheep without a shepherd. | And when He saw the crowds He was touched with pity for them, because they were distressed and were fainting on the ground like sheep which have no shepherd. |
Matthew 9:37 | then saith he to his disciples, `The harvest indeed [is] abundant, but the workmen few; | Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few. | Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is abundant, but the reapers are few; |
Matthew 9:38 | beseech ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he may put forth workmen to His harvest.` | Pray therefore that the Lord of the harvest will send forth laborers into his harvest." | therefore entreat the Owner of the Harvest to send out reapers into His fields." |
